HERE BY US, HISTORY STEMS OUT OF COOPERATION
Our story begins in Mantua, when ambition and solidarity joined hands into a cooperation among local cheese factories to get together towards the goal of producing peak quality goods. Thus, in 1966, the Consorzio Latterie Sociali Mantovane (Union of the Community Milk Factories of Mantua) was born.
Our union immediately stepped up as a symbol of excellence in the production of butter and fresh creams, the main reason why they called us “La Cremeria”. As the years went by, we also included hard cheeses, putting Grana Padano DOP and Parmigiano Reggiano DOP on the market. The Virgilio brand union is the only one bearing both those certifications.
Today Virgilio family counts 50 associated cheese factories and over 1.500 associated breeders as members.
GOALS AND VALUES
Our history looks to the future, aiming to keep on improving and evolving that very same excellency that made us one of the healthiest and most grounded industrial realities in Italy, a landmark in the large-scale retail trade of milk and cheese.
Our mission is to get Italian products of the highest possible quality inside the houses of millions of consumers. Products whose quality derives from a rigorously controlled and certified production and supply chain, and made using the most advanced technologies – and, at the same time, in accordance to our own traditions.
Our goals hold our core values as their basis: solidarity and cooperation, the same values that brought us together and lead us, day after day, along the path of constant evolution and improvement.
OUR UNION TODAY
It’s been almost half a century since those first cheese factories got together and, even today, our values, motivations and that reliability that’s the very core of our group remain the same. At that time, the first cheese factories entering the union were 27 small realities of the Mantua countryside. Today, instead, we can count on over 50 companies. More than 1.500 breeders are cooperating on producing, bagging and trading Virgilio branded products: milk, U.H.T. cream, butter, béchamel, mascarpone cheese and Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano DOP.
